Learning Inkscape - Grokking the Bezier Tool

I finally made it back to Inkscape again couldn’t muster up any enthusiasm for the soup can. I moved ahead in the tutorials to tiling designs and patterns but just didn’t get it.
I decided to take a side street for a little while at least. I find I learn better by picking out a project and jumping in feet first. I returned to an aspect of of Inkscape where I have a point of reference from Gimp and Photoshop. Paths in Gimp and Photoshop has always been a way for me to store selections to be fetched from the paths palette when needed. Now I have to get used to paths being objects that can occupy layers. A bit more complicated.
So… I find clipart out of a Dover book, scanned and imported it into Inkscape. There are enough key combinations used in conjunction with the selections and path tools it seems overwhelming to begin with. I remember this being referred to as the finger dance in an old Illustrator WOW book I have. No great art here but by the time I finish tracing the clip art I won’t have to think too much about the dance.
If it happens not to be obvious I used a fill color of red with the paths in the above clip art to contrast with the underlying pixel image.
